Hello all,
So, anyone here have any thoughts on what is going on with the new ATP 2009 points system?
They simply doubled everyone's points for previous year (2008) and restructured the points system for all ATP tournaments in 2009:
1. At Grand slams, Masters series and other regular ATP events, winners & finalists seem to get significantly more points than an appearance in semis, quarters, R16, R32 etc.
2. they have left the challenger and futures points more or less the same - especially if you make an appearance in the semis, quarters, R16 and R32 of those tournaments. But the winners and finalists of challengers and Futures seem to get a few more points in 2009 system!
While you are at this, think about the effects of consolidating all of the regular ATP tournaments into 3 levels: 1000, 500 and 250. For example, a 1.1Million dollar Qatar open gives the same level of points (250 for the winner) as the 450,000 dollar Chennai open (again 250 points for winner).
